Basic Life Support (BLS Provider)
The American Heart Association’s BLS course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate breaths and ventilations, and provide early use of an AED. The course reflects science and education from the most up-to-date American Heart Association Guidelines for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC).
Who should take this course?
The American Heart Association’s BLS Course is designed for healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
What does this course teach?
- High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants

- Delivering effective breaths or ventilations

Heartsaver® First Aid
The Heartsaver First Aid course trains participants first aid basics for the most common first aid emergencies, including how to recognize them, how to call for help, and how to perform lifesaving skills.
Who should take this course?
Heartsaver First Aid is designed for anyone with little or no medical training who needs a first aid training to meet job, regulatory, or licensing requirements. Always confirm with your employer which format is accepted.
What does this course teach?
Heartsaver First Aid teaches the lifesaving skills of first aid including:
- First aid basics
- Medical emergencies
- Injury emergencies
- Environmental emergencies
- Preventing illness and injury
- Choking help for an Adult, Child or Infant
- Drowning response and prevention

Our instructors will teach you live—in person, using training materials specially developed to teach bleeding control techniques. They will not only instruct you, they will be available to check your movements as you practice three different bleeding control actions. They will keep working with you until you demonstrate the correct skills to STOP THE BLEED® and save a life.
What You'll Learn
What stops bleeding? In a STOP THE BLEED® course, you’ll learn three quick techniques to help save a life before someone bleeds out: (1) How to use your hands to apply pressure to a wound; (2) How to pack a wound to control bleeding; (3) How to correctly apply a tourniquet. These three techniques will empower you to assist in an emergency and potentially save a life.

A STOP THE BLEED® course is for people who are interested in learning this lifesaving skill. The American College of Surgeons STOP THE BLEED® campaign has trained over 1 million people including students, teachers, and community groups. We are committed to training anyone who is old enough to understand what the course teaches and is interested in learning how to STOP THE BLEED® and save a life.

Textbook(s): It is highly recommended you have access to the most up-to-date AHA BLS Provider manual and Heartsaver student eBook for the class you are taking that is the newest version with the current AHA guidelines being taught. You are encouraged to purchase the BLS Manual/eBook & Heartsaver Student eBook from us now when completing your registration. The hardcopy BLS Provider Manual is provided when available. However, the BLS Provider Student Manual eBook and Heartsaver Student eBook are fully digital resources for the American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support and Heartsaver Courses, updated to reflect the latest AHA Guidelines for CPR & ECC. AHA eBooks equip healthcare professionals and first responders with the knowledge and skills needed for high-quality CPR, AED use, ventilation, and teamwork in resuscitation. Ideal for use as a reference tool before and after the Certification Course.
